Born in Blato, Korčula, district of Dubrovnik, Croatia in 1922; received his Doctor of Medicinae Universae (M. D.) in 1947, followed by his Doctor of Medicinae Scienciae (D. Sc.) from the University of Zagreb. In addition to residency work of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery completed in Zagreb, he attended the University of Paris in 1952, the Institute of Laryngology and Otology of London in 1958, the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center as a Research Fellow in 1963-1964, and the Medical College of Wisconsin as a Research Associate and Visiting Professor in 1972. From 1961-1965 he held the position of Co-Chairman of the Department of ORL at the University Hospital and then became Chairman of this Department in 1966, which he maintained until 1988. Since 1964 he has been Director of the Institute for Research of the Ear and Respiratory Tract, and since 1969, attending Otolaryngologist at the Central Institute for Tumors and Allied Diseases, Zagreb. Between 1959-1987 he served as consultant and founder in the Otolaryngology Hospital for the Rehabilitation and Treatment of Respiratory Organs in Crikvenica, Croatia. He was Director of the Scientific Programs of the Central Institute for Tumors and Allied Diseases and is now their consultant for Head and Neck surgery. He was a founding member and President of the Croatian League for the Fight against Cancer, as well as a member of the Commisson on Cancer Campaign and Organizationof UICC (Geneva) between 1970-1974, and was a member of the UICC Council from 1974-1982. In 1975 he was President of Collegum Otorhinolaryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum. In May, 1978, he was elected Vice-President of the Association of European Cancer Institutes Directors. He is creator of microlaryngostroboscope. For the innovative contribution in rhinoplasty he received a world Award at the International Congress of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, and was honoured for his life achievement in 1993.
